Best of San Francisco

We’d like to congratulate the Mission on winning “Best Neighborhood to Call Home” in SF Weekly‘s Best of San Francisco Readers’ Poll.

Policing Capp

May 20, 2009

Reader zinzin reports that bicycle cops have started patrolling Capp St.:

one thing i CAN say, is that our Capp/Shotwell@20th neighborhood group has met with Campos & Tacchini both….

and they have arranged, effective as of Wed, 5/6, dedicated bicycle officers to patrol Capp, SVN, Shotwell, and Folsom from 18th – 21st.

We questioned if David Campos (District 9 Supervisor) and Mission Station Capt. Stephen Tacchini would actually follow through; However, I soon after ran into a bike cop writing a parking ticket on the 500 block of Capp.  Keep those revenues up!  The only disappointing thing here is that they only put the resources on 18th – 21st.  I cannot imagine that they don’t know that there is crime elsewhere on the street.

Okay, ha-ha. But seriously, tomorrow morning I’m leaving town, just in time to miss a menu with SOFT SHELL PO’ BOY SLIDERS, KOBE LENGUA, DUCK HEARTS AND FOIE GRAS ON A STICK. What is wrong with me? Link.

BREAKING: Mr. Pickle Found!

May 20, 2009

mr pickle

Our pal Thaddius just hipped us to the news of the century. Mr. Pickle has been spotted lurking in the photostream of Flickr photographer cellybrain. The above is brightened up a bit. See the original here.

I messaged the photographer a few minutes ago asking if he has any interest in trying to help get the hostage returned home safely. No reply yet.

The rest of his photostream is pretty killer, too. A sample:

I love this picture. It’s like all of ’70s cinema in one quick snap. Telstar Logistics wins again. Click it to blow it up.

Cops in Game Plan Mode

May 20, 2009

K-Mac over at Mission and Highland had quite a night last night:

Last night the couple above me got into a big fight. It sounded horrible. I was going to call the cops. Then, I heard the woman walk down the stairwell crying. I poked my head out the window to see her walking and weeping down the sidewalk toward her car holding an overnight bag. I watched her get into her Mustang and leave expecting the boyfriend to coming running after her. I thought things were done for the night.

And it just builds and builds from there.

Pig Panic Spreads to Walgreens

May 20, 2009

A few weeks ago it was just a few people wearing masks on the streets.  Now Walgreen’s on 23rd and Mission is apparently trying to cash in on the action.  Better late than never.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on Walgreens.  Until 40 minutes ago, I didn’t know that Banana Boat sunblock could help me prevent Swine Flu.  It’s amazing what you learn when trying to buy glue before close.
