Cool Kids Use Cool Stuff: Dolores Chiller

ScreenHunter_02 Jul. 23 10.32

A photo of some cool kid wearing the all-new Dolores Chiller from Timbuk2 has caused quite a stir in the comments section of a Bikes and the City feature on last weekend’s Sunday Streets event in the Mission. Sample vitriol:

These obnoxious hipsters are ruining our neighborhood with their “pay to play” ironic bullshit. I’m begging you to go elsewhere and leave us locals out of your fantasy land.

Link. Feel free not to contribute to the extremely tired, everlasting debate about hipsterism.

In any case, the all-new Dolores Chiller from Timbuk2 is an absolute delight! Looks like a messenger bag, performs like an ice chest! (I’m on the wagon right now, so I’ve yet to actually use it to haul PBR or MHL to the park for a picnic, but it totally kept my Very Berry Crystal Geyser cold the other day.) It’s fully insulated and seals up nice and tight, and even has a built-in bottle opener (affording me a lighter load on the keyring I keep carabinered to the outside of my pants).

Note that it also functions the way a traditional messenger bag functions: You can put books and sweatshirts and other dry goods in it and use it to transport them around town. And what a color scheme! Perhaps most importantly, the company had the presence of mind to name such a highly useful — and thoroughly handsome — item after the undisputed best place in the entire world ever, Dolores Park. Kudos to Timbuk2 on a job well done. Click here to view the product page for the all-new Dolores Chiller from Timbuk2.

  1. I think Alan’s just having a little fun.

But this blog sucks ever since AA and those bags are “gay”(?) and hipsters suck and so do people who buy stuff(?) and… holy crap it must be exhausting being that guy. If anyone could use a cold pbr it’s him. Hope he finds one.

  2. Is the bag made in China? Just wondering… heard Timbuk2 makes pretty much all their retail bags in Asian factories, & the only ones they still make in SF are the ridic expensive custom ones.

    1. “MADE WITH PRIDE WORLDWIDE timbuk2.com” on one side, “made in the philippines” on the other. I wonder if I’m related to the oppressed worker that made it.

      1. @meganallison might have more to say about timbuk2’s factories and business philosophy, she went to a forum where the founder was speaking and he pretty much said – we want to go big, so we gotta go to Asia, but we still keep miniminal light manufacturing in san francisco so we can keep the “san francisco” brand. other founders, like distillery 209 folks, were also there, and he pretty called them fools for keeping industry in SF.

anyways, it’s a paraphrase of a paraphrase, so who knows how accurate my statement is :)

  3. … $110 dollars! only jeans should cost that much!

(Doesn’t Dolores means the sorrows in english?, which seems somehow appropriate)

  4. seriously that bag is “gay” please do the world a favor and do not use that language it is so NOT OK just in case you were wondering. I thought this was San Francisco, so tired of homophobic language.

  5. I think the bag is awesome and I totaly LOL’d when i first saw that it was named “Dolores”. Seriously an obvious nod to DP.

and Allan you sport it well. hope you fall off the wagon sometime soon!

  6. what a circlejerk of elitism and smug self-entitlment, sometimes I feel like someone should fucking napalm san francisco and we can start over without people who trip over stupid shit like messenger bags and fixies

  7. Timbuk2 should never have changed their name from ‘Scumbags’. Get a real Zo bag off ebay for $500 -money better spent.
