Google declares new neighborhood ‘Somisspo’

Don’t call it south of the Market, north of the Mission, near Potrero Hill. It’s Somisspo.

According to Google, anyway. As our anonymous tipster says:

…it looks like those fellers at google are going on a cartographic joyride.

Not sure where they got that name, but there’s no way the source is as reliable as Johnny0. Hey are you reading this Google? Civic Valley. Make it happen.

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

    1. That link does not mention the dumb and un-creative moniker “Somisspo” (someone’s poo?). Are the comments just –POOF!– gone now? Cuz I don’t see it.

And anyway, how does 2005 for a neighborhood name in SF constitute “a long time?” Most neighborhoods have had their names for multiple decades at least, if not generations.

  1. That’s the neighborhood I work in, and I’ve always heard it referred to as the “design district”

  2. Ick. Death to importing Manhattan naming conventions into San Francisco! We have lost the battle for NoPa but we must hold the line!

    1. Here here! It does not reflect San Francisco creativity and flair. WE DON’T COPY IN SF (or at least we are remiss if we do)…

  3. It was going to to be “SoMissPot” but they realized nobody in that area is ever in a position to miss pot so they cut the last T off.

  4. So, as I just moved into this microhood… I have been having trouble telling people where I live… “well its like top of the mission or like below civic center/soma kinda…”

Lets pick a name and make it stay (and not be so ridiculous).

BTW this microhood is awesome, convenient to everything, yet somehow QUIET at night… I dig.

  5. Mission Mission

  6. Hey this is kind of of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs
use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with
HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted
to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. You really want an answer to this question, either go search the threaded question/answer website https://www.quora.com/

I know I’ve seen lots of questions similar to this, so I would suggest just searching on there for the topic like “best blog editor” or “blogs without coding”. Personally, I use Medium.com specifically for its simplicity. It forces the writer to focus on what they write and not how pretty they can format their writing.

Just be aware, the simpler it is to write and format on a blog, the less formatting you will be able to do.

But I would suggest taking this to Quora and searching for it there. And if your just starting, I would recommend, you start and account and as you start writing your blog as more questions like how to get exposure or make money if you get that far!

As a Systems Integration and Support Engineer, Business Consultant and Product Manager for 18 years myself, I advise that site so you will have a place to come back for more help from peers and professionals for free. Then please, come back and give in-kind and answer other people’s questions on topics you currently know more about and share knowledge and help others!

      Good luck!

  7. Umrah is the Holy journey to Makkah and Madina. Umrah is also known as “minor Hajj”. Umrah is an expiation of sins. It is great Sunnah of our beloved prophet (pbuh) it is an act of worship somewhat similar to Hajj, but with lesser rights and shorter duration.
