Friday plans

Check out these two things going on this Friday night:

First, our friends over at Muni Diaries are throwing a party for the opening of In Transit, a photo show celebrating 100 years since the first Muni car picked up its passengers, probably half an hour late.

The opening reception this Friday will also feature our new “Rename Your Muni Line” game where you can bestow a new nickname for your line (6-Parnasty, anybody?) on a humongous map, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style (no blindfolds, unless you’re so inclined).

Participating Photographers include Jeremy Brooks, Roi Brooks, Reynaldo Ruetas Cayetano Jr., Claudine Co, Mike Dillon,Brandon Duran, Adolfo Echeverry, Dave Glass (Dizzy Atmosphere), Daniel Hoherd, Troy Holden, Bob Horowitz, Bhautik Joshi, David Lytle, Calvina Nguyen, Julie Michelle Sparenberg, Moncrief Speaks, Doctor Popular, Sergio Ruiz, Hep Svadja, Jeremy Whiteman, Jon Wollenhaupt and yours truly (me).

You can also bring your own Muni photo to be included on the wall of commuter contributions and win a novelty slide viewer door prize.

Then you can swing on over to the Mission Local party at 780 Cafe. It’s their 4th birthday and they’re raising funds to be able to continue reporting and exploring the life and times of our great neighborhood. Food, drinks, raffle and music by Diana Gameros, who I’ve seen a few times at Roosevelt Tamale Parlor and really enjoyed.

Bayview In The Mission

BAYCAT In Dolores Park 2010

Two Thursdays ago our team from BAYCAT (Bayview Hunters Point Center for Arts & Technology) brought our video, audio and animation students to Dolores Park to run around and have fun in the sun to celebrate the end of our summer classes. Soccer, baseball, water balloon toss and a three legged race. Pretty much making them the only people actually standing up in Dolores Park.

Here’s the music video for the song they wrote and produced with San Francisco rap producer Andre “Herm” Lewis and BAYCAT’s Will Hammond, Jr, Invisible. They wrote all their own lyrics.

Check out some more of the videos they did this summer, including a gross McDonald’s parody, RagDonald’s.

Between The Streets at The Secret Alley

Between The Streets
This Friday and Saturday (10/23 and 10/24) the weirdos over at The Secret Alley are bringing together the most glorious music, movies, magic, art and street food in the immediate area. (I should note that I am one of these weirdos)

Friday night the doors open at 5pm with performances starting at 6pm. (early birds get the prime seats in the tree house) Saturday the doors open at 2pm and we go into the night.

You can listen to bands like Dot Punto, The Yellow Dress, Boyz IV Men, Queen Victoria and Commissure play music.

You can watch short movies by people like Ashley Lauren Saks, Casimir Fornalski and Tom Little.

You can enjoy art by people like Alfonso Kellenberger, Brian McDonald and Sonya Derman.

You can get food from vendors like Pizza Hacker, Sexy Soup Lady, Soul Cocina and Smitten Ice Cream.

A full list of participants and a schedule appears on our website. It will be a super fun two days and we’re really excited to show you all what we’ve been working on for the past few years. Please come by and say hi.

We will also be raffling off either a filmmaking class or a day of studio time at the impressive studios of The San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking.

Looks like I am Broke-ass of the week, which means you can read a little about my marginally interesting life, retch at my failed attempts at humor, and see me leverage my psychic abilities.  Ain’t self-promotion fun?
