Do San Fran AS A LOCAL

While visiting the fair city of NYC, MM reader Zarah spotted an article in the Metro paper that purports to show one “how to do San Fran like a local.”  What are some of the things she learned?

San Francisco is one of the coolest places on earth–period.

The Mission District is the place for lunch, in particular, Taqueria Cancun & Ti Couz–altho, they also recommend the Marina for dinner, so meh.

I should spend the afternoon in “Delores Park” to watch the “enjoyable sideshow of hip (or weird) locals.”

Read on.

  1. ha! and the one comment is from someone talking about citymint and getting a Rosamunde sausage delivered to their blanket.

They never mention the gays in the article, though, not once.

    1. Why bother with the obvious? That would be like mentioning that the air here is made of oxygen, nitrogen, and marijuana smoke.

      1. Because every good idea the hipsters ever have had was actually started 1st by, then stolen from, the *g*a*y*s.

Except of course getting drunk and acting stupid in the DP. That was all hipster genius.

      1. Now I know for sure that you are a total douchebag. Herb Caen is dead, and you are not from here. All Frisco Natives know what’s up. Only douchebags and transplants bristle at “Frisco”

      2. Actually this is from Emperor Norton, a San Francisco resident (and immigrant from London) in 1872…
“Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word “Frisco”, which has no linguistic or other warrant, shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor, and shall pay into the Imperial Treasury as penalty the sum of twenty-five dollars.”

      3. Times change; “Frisco” has been replaced by far worse epithets… notably, both “San Fran” and “Cali”. “Frisco” now seems relatively mild, in comparison. Hell, “Baghdad By The Bay” doesn’t even sound all that bad anymore.

    1. But isn’t it just White People in the Things White People Like-sense who don’t say Cali? People who don’t hang out in the Bayview, East Oakland, or in Watts might never hear it.

  2. As an SF transplant to NY, let me state the obvious here by saying that the Metro is a crappy free daily paper pushed on NY residents as they exit and enter the train…nothing that 90% of the New York metropolitan area take seriously.

  3. Perfect timing for this. I get into SF next Thurs. and will get right on checking off that list. Top of the list, Folsom Street Fair, the omission of which must have been a simple oversight.
